Computer Use Policy
Bloomfield Residents must have a Bloomfield Public Library card in good standing to use the computers, and library cards are not transferable. Bloomfield residents with a valid Bloomfield Public Library card in good standing* are entitled to a total of two (2) hours of computer use per day. If a Bloomfield resident does not have a valid library card on them, but does have one, they may show ID at the Circulation desk to obtain their barcode for computer use only. Bloomfield residents who do not possess a Bloomfield Library card may be granted a guest pass at the discretion of the librarian for one time use, but must obtain a library card before they come in next.
Visitors from out-of-town, including those from other BCCLS or ReBL libraries, as well as Bloomfield High School and Bloomfield College staff and students, may log on to any public computer workstation for a single one hour (60 minute) session once per day with a guest pass. This pass can be obtained at the Reference Desk.
Additional time may be granted at the discretion of the librarian on duty, based on the volume of computer usage. This applies to Bloomfield residents with valid library cards and guests, although priority will be given to Bloomfield Library card holders.
If anyone is found to be using a card that is not their own, they will be asked to leave and their card will be blocked from future computer usage.
All users of computers are expected to work independently and have basic computer and Internet skills. Staff members may assist with specific questions but are not trained to provide extended or in-depth tech support. Staff members are not expected to handle, nor will they be responsible for handling, any personal information that computer users input or want to input into the public computers and/or personal devices. At busy times, users may be asked to wait for help or a staff member may not be able to assist based on the in-depth nature of the request. Patrons with a valid Bloomfield Public Library card can make an appointment with a librarian for 1-on-1 assistance with basic computer help.
*Good standing: a card that is currently up-to-date and is not blocked due to overdues or fines, as per BCCLS card policy.
PRINTING
Printing is $0.20 per page for Black & White ink and $0.50 per page for color ink. Patrons
must select either black and white OR color BEFORE sending a job to the printer. One (1) double-sided print job will cost the same as two (2) single-sided print jobs. Mobile Printing is available and can be accessed from print.princh.com (Princh) and the printer ID number is 107117. Print jobs that are sent via email or via Princh will not be printed until the patron has arrived to pick up the job. Patrons must use the printing paper provided by the library.
OFFENSIVE OR ILLEGAL MATERIAL
The Bloomfield Public Library respects the users’ rights to confidentially access information and content, but also has a duty to ensure that its shared common areas are free of behavior that demeans, intimidates, or discriminates against patrons or employees. Therefore, to ensure that the library is in compliance with local, state, and federal civil rights laws, anyone using or displaying library resources in a manner that creates an atmosphere that harasses (sexually or otherwise), or discriminates against others may be asked to modify their behavior. Examples that may require staff to ask you to modify behavior include, but are not limited to:
● Printing and/or prominently displaying* content featuring racial, gender-based, or religious invective or insults;
● Printing and/or prominently displaying scenes of violence;
● Printing and/or prominently displaying sexual content;
● Printing and/or prominently displaying materials in a way that appears to target others.
Modifying one’s behavior could include:
● Collaborating on a solution that ensures optimal access to information or content as well as a safe and respectful environment for all.
● Discontinuing the behavior.
Users who refuse to discontinue the behavior or collaboratively resolve a concern may be found in violation of the library’s Code of Conduct and subject to restriction of privileges per library policy, effective immediately. They may also be asked to leave the library.
*Prominently displaying means the content is intentionally or incidentally visible to others, which may result in a hostile atmosphere for all.
