FDA Office of Women's Health: Informative FDA consumer fact sheets about products and health conditions for women and their families.
HHS Office on Women's Health: A listing of FAQ's about women's health issues including recommended screenings and diagnostic tests and a menopause resource guide.
National Women's Health Resource Center: Health reports, updates and a free e-newsletter on women's health issues.

Health & Medicine
In the library, ask for Physician's Desk Reference (PDR), the PDR for Herbal Medicine and PDR for Nonprescription Drugs for drug evaluations. Also, the PDR Family Guide to Prescription Drugs provides similar information in easier to understand language. In the Reference Shelves are several useful books, such as: Everything You Need to Know About Medical Tests, Johns Hopkins Symptoms & Remedies, American Medical Association Family Medical Guide, Alternative Medicine, Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine and more!

  • EbscoHost Health Source: Outside the library, input the barcode number from the back of your Bloomfield Public Library card for access. This database includes many excellent health resources.
  • AMA Physician Select. Find a qualified Doctor or check credentials.
  • NJ Division of Consumer Affairs. Included information about physician's training and education as well as malpractice payments and disciplinary actions.
  • NJ State Board of Medical Examiners: suspensions, etc.
  • American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) . Lists physician's specialty traning and board certifications.
  • Consumer Rated. Consumers rate physicians on a scale of 1-5 and can post anonymous comments on this free site.
  • Doctor Score. Including patient surveys in which consumers rate doctors, as well as anonymous comments.
  • AHS Health Sciences Libraries. Atlantic Health System libraries are not only open to hospital employees and affiliated physicians, but also to patients, their families, and the general public. Including an "Ask the Hospital Librarian" service combines the consumer health & medical collections of the AHS libraries with the wealth of materials available online through the National Library of Medicine. When you fill in the form about the specific disease, surgery, test or research study that you have questions about, an expert CLIP coordinator will retrieve accurate, relevant, up-to-date websites or material for you. This information will be easily understandable, and can be emailed, faxed or mailed to you (or brought to the hospital room of an AHS inpatient).

  • MEDLINEplus: extensive information about specific diseases and conditions and has links to consumer health information from the National Institutes of Health, clearinghouses, dictionaries, lists of hospitals and physicians, health information in Spanish and other languages, and clinical trials.
  • Healthfinder: online publications, clearinghouses, databases, web sites, and support and self-help groups, as well as the government agencies and not-for-profit organizations
  • Family Doctor.org: patient education documents for common medical concerns and conditions
  • Merck Manual. Free searchable database of medical conditions. Also available in print in the library.
  • FDA Drug information.
  • Human Anatomy On-line This Java-enhanced site shows images of body parts and provides explanations of their functions.
