General Biography
In the library see books such as Current Biography in Ref 920.02

  • Yahoo. For biographies of scientists or obscure personalities, type in the name in the search box. If you know the University or Institution where the person works, try searching for that.
  • EbscoHOst Biography Collection Database Outside of the library, enter your Bloomfield Public Library card barcode number for access. A comprehensive collection of full-text biographies supporting history, science, the arts, music, literature, multicultural studies, gender studies, business, government & politics, sports, entertainment and many other areas.
  • Information Please Almanac. Biographies on all sorts of people.
  • Biographical Dictionary. This dictionary covers more than 28,000 notable men and women who have shaped our world from ancient times to the present day.

Explorers
In the library, look up information on Explorers at the call number 910.92, or in the biography section alphabetically by the last name of the explorer. Some great resources in the Reference Section are: Explorers & Discoverers of the World, The Great Explorers and Who Was Who in World Exploration.

Nobel Prize Winners & Scientists
In the library, look up biographies of Nobel Prize Winners or Scientists by name. Also, look for further information under additional subject headings if the scientist is a minority or a woman.

Inventors & Invention
In the library, check out these books for information on inventions: In the call numbers 503 and 920 or in the biography section alphabetically by the name of the author. Also check in The New Illustrated Science and Invention Encyclopedia, McGraw-Hill Yearbook of Science & Technology, Grolier Encycolopedia of Science & Technology, Great Scientific Achievements, Dictionary of Scientific Biography, and more!

Women's History Month
In the library, look up information for Women's History Month at the call numbers: 920.72 or 305.42. Some excellent Reference resources are: Women in Society (worldwide), Encyclopedia of Feminism, Almanac of American Women in the 20th Century, Prominent Women of the 20th Century, Black Women in America, Notable Black American Women.

Black History Month
In the library, look up information for Black History Month at the call number: 973.0496. Also see more information on scientists, women or inventors. Still more information can usually be found alphabetically in the biography sections under the subject's last name. Some excellent resources available in the library are: African Americans at War and African-American Encyclopedia.

Native Americans
In the library, look up information on Native American Tribes at the call number: 970.1. Some great resources in the library include: American Indians and Handbook of North American Indians in the Reference section.
