President's Message
Welcome! Welcome to all our present and potential members, those keenly interested
people of our community!
It is with great pleasure that I introduce the first issue of the Friends of the
Bloomfield Public Library's newsletter. It is our hope that the contents of this and
future newsletters will serve to inform and inspire and that it will be a vehicle that
will bring the township community up to date on the activities and accomplishments of
the Friends. We invite your participation and hope you will share your talents and
ideas so that together we can assist our library in continuing to provide and improve
its facilities and services to the community.
In this first issue, we share a bit of
history regarding the Friends.
After reading our lead article, I know you will agree that we owe
our founder, Mrs. Helene Scherff Taylor, a debt of gratitude. We
know she is proud of all the wonderful things the Friends have
accomplished over the past 70 years. Thank you, Mrs. Scherff
Taylor, for your foresight, insight, enthusiasm and determination.
Also, I would like to take this opportunity to share with you a number
of the Friends' recent accomplishments in our ongoing effort in assisting
the library in reaching its goals of meeting the informational, educational
and cultural needs of the community.
- Award of four scholarships: two to Bloomfield College students and two to Bloomfield High School students.
- Donation to the Adult Library for the purchase of books
- Donation to the Children's Library for the purchase of books
- Donation to the Audiovisual Department for the purchase of tapes and DVDs
- Donation for the purchase of The Book Page
- Donation for the purchase of computer servers
- Donation of appliances and flooring for the new library staff room, and
- Donation for landscaping services for the library.

We hope you enjoy our first issue and look forward to hearing from you as you
renew your membership or
become a member of the Friends of
the Bloomfield Public Library. With your help and participation, I know
we will be able to repeat and exceed our success of the past 70 years well
into the 21st Century.
